"How are you?"
"You're looking well!"
My symptoms are hidden,
How can you tell?
Assumptions are made,
About how I feel.
You think I'm doing better,
But that's not the deal.
You won't always know,
How it feels underneath.
Judge books by their covers,
When the story's beneath.
You want the real answer?
Know how I'm doing?
Or are we playing games,
Honesty would ruin?
The questions too broad,
What do you mean?
Compared to what, when?
I'll whisper, you lean.
This is a secret,
You ready to know?
I don't have a clue,
It's like fog or snow.
Everything's the same,
Yet everything's changed.
No frame of reference,
I feel out of range.
It isn't my fault,
Details are hazy.
I'm labelled a liar,
Dramatic or lazy.
Not sure how I am,
But I know I'm not well,
Despite what folk think,
You can't always tell.
Looking well is complex,
Can we skip that line?
Do you want me to be honest,
Or tell you I'm fine?
