Community Calls - poem

We say our goodbyes,

A click ends our call.

I sit and I wonder,

As I stare at the wall.

Do I feel better?

Do I feel worse?

Where do I put this,

Once we disperse?

I'm angry, I'm sad,

There's lots that I feel.

I don't think that's wrong,

I think that it's real.

Real is important,

We matter, we care.

I'm grateful for you,

And these spaces we share.

We're doing what we can,

We're trying, let's see.

What can we do,

To ensure we're all free?

I think of the others,

Too sick to attend.

You've not been forgotten,

This isn't the end.

The anger is burning,

But there's other warmth too.

Seen as "too negative",

It's simply untrue.

There's joy in these spaces,

As well as the pain.

It's vibrant, and vital,

And far from mundane.

One minute you're crying,

The next there's a laugh.

The sound a reminder,

We don't do things by half.

People pour their heart in,

It's an honour to witness.

I wish it wasn't necessary,

This order of business.

But here we will gather,

Isolated no more.

Power in community,

That will not ignore.

One that believes,

And learns from each other.

Better is possible,

We'll build it together.
